Sulzano – Lake Iseo – Clive and Gina – ‘Our Corner of Paradise’
Project Manager:- Geom. Pierangelo Crespi
Architect:- Sara Ugazio
Team Co-ordinator:- Madeleine Morgan
Description of Works:-
The building is an ancient monastery from the 16th century located directly on Lake Iseo in Sulzano, Lake Iseo.
The entire monastery complex has recently been converted into a residence of holiday homes and is still protected by specific regulations for the preservation of buildings of historical interest.
The ancient vaults that characterise the entire flat could not be touched by masonry or furnishings. The client’s style was modern and minimalist and they wanted to have a comfortable living room and kitchen area with the warmth of the old fireplace and the modernity of custom-made lighting systems.
The master bedroom has modern furniture designed and handcrafted to measure. The equipment and the walk-in wardrobe divide the sleeping area from the relaxation area.
The original flooring has been retained and recovered in the design of the new house. We relied on local craftsmen to create the chandeliers and furniture for the bedroom, which the client designed himself (being an architect) but supervised by Pier and Sara. We installed new flooring and tiling in the new bathroom, as well as creating new plumbing and wiring, we bought the bathroom and accessories locally. The kitchen was created by local craftsmen, in order to adapt it, we had to close a wall rewiring and reconnect the new spaces.
Back to Projects
“In May 2018 we purchased our apartment on Lake Iseo with the invaluable assistance of Madeleine of Dreamhomes. We wanted to make some internal adjustments to make the apartment better suit our requirements. The adjustments involved:
– extending one bedroom into a hallway and getting custom made furniture installed to also act as a divider within the room
– extending one bathroom and shortening another bathroom (by moving a separating wall). This also involved the installation of new bathroom furniture/equipment and revised plumbing and electrical works.
– adding decking to a roof terrace.
The project was managed by Madeleine including:
– Introducing us to an architect, Sara, who provided several drawings to help us choose our preferred layout.
– assistance with the selection of furniture and equipment
– recommending and managing the tradesmen who carried out the alterations
All this took place while we were back home in Scotland, with regular updates including photo’s at all stages, so when we returned to Italy in Late June the project was completed. I don’t think we would have made the adjustments without Madeleine advising on trusted professionals and tradesmen to complete the project and also managing the project in our absence. We were very happy with the results and a couple of small issues since have been rectified very quickly.”
